BAND- a ring of metal that
surrounds a tooth with a tube or bracket attached.

ATTACHMENT- is tube or bracket
welded to a band.

BRACKET- a groved piece attached
to to a band or a tooth that holds the main wire. Newer self ligating brackets have a sliding gate or door to surroung the main wire.

ARCHWIRE- the main wire that
is connected to all the teeth and upon which the teeth slide like a train
on rails.

LIGATURE- wire connectors.

HOOKS- metal extensions which
are used to attach rubber bands to the braces.

SPRING- placed on the archwire
between to brackets in order to push teeth next to the spring apart or
pull two teeth together.

TUBE- a pipe into which the
archwire or night brace may be inserted.
