Our records room provides a private, HIPAA compliant room for taking the x-rays and impressions that are used to make a diagnosis. We have the capability of taking both panoramic and cephalometric radiographs (x-rays) The panoramic x-ray is easy to pose for and it shows the all the teeth, the jaws and a limited view of the jaw joint. We often discover missing teeth, extra teeth, crooked tooth roots, impacted teeth and cysts on the panoramic x-ray. The cephalometric x-ray displays a side view of head contents revealing the horozontal and vertical skeletal components of some bad bites as well as the tilt of the front teeth. We use tan protective shield which is hanging on the wall in this picture to limit radiation below the patient's neck for both machines for increased safety. In addition, we use a white protective shield/collar to limit radiation to the Adams Apple/thyroid when taking a cephalometric radiograph. We do not take records on pregnant patients because most orthodontic care is elective or optional. Its just as easy to begin treatment after the baby is born.
