Our main tooth brushing area is part of the treatment area, although, some patients also use the rest room to brush. Tooth brushing and flossing and rinsing are key ingredients to succeeding with orthodontic treatment. Poor tooth cleaning can lead to permanent white spots on the teeth (decalcification) and gum disease. Our tooth brushing area includes germ killing Listorine mouth wash, one-use disposable toothbrushes, paper cups and paper towels. We use one-use disposable toothbrushes so patients always have a clean brush waiting for them at our office. Although we highly recommend the use of fluoride toothpaste at home, we do not keep any toothpaste in our tooth brushing areas. We want to prevent cross contamination by preventing someone with a cold from touching his/her contaminated brush against a communal toothpaste tube and then potentially passing the cold virus to the next person who touches the tube with their brush.
