Most of our care is delivered in the open bay treatment area above. Although we have a private, HIPAA compliant treatment room in addition to the open bay, we feel that children are more comfortable in the open bay because they can chat with each other and are not left alone. We have a CD player so patients can bring their own music for longer appointments. We also have a Sony Playstation mounted in front of the chairs so patients can enjoy playing video games with infra red controllers if there is a lull in their visit. A computer workstation is centered in the treatment area because its screen displays patient arrivals and color choices. We also use this computer to enter digital camera images of the patients facial and dental appearance. Patient x-rays are also converted to digital images by either camera or the flatbed scanner attached to the computer workstation. We enter our treatment chart notes into the computer too. Beause our goal is to minimize loss of patient information in the event of an office disaster, we back up all patient computer data to a tape each evening and remove this backup tape to an off site location overnight.

You may notice that we have lots of posters on the treatment area walls. We use them to brighten the room but we also give them away to patients for special occasions and as rewards when the patient has been particularly helpful with a portion of their treatment.

You can see a rust colored chest in the far right picture. This is a seat for parents who want to chat with the clinical team as they work and to provide emotional support for young patients until they get a chance to know and trust us.

A large mirror with a tooth brushing sink is also visible in the far right picture. There are no x-ray machines in the treatment area. We minimize x-ray exposure by isolating these machines to a separate records room.
